Describe an important character.
Explain how the character changes throughout the text.
In the novel Tomorrow, When the War Began written by John Marsden an important character who changes is Ellie. Seven teenagers go on a camping trip to Hell and when they come back they realise their country has been invaded by foreign forces. They learn how to adapt to their surroundings and fight to survive. Ellie changes from an innocent teenager to someone who took the lives of other people. Ellie also changes from someone who is sure of herself to questioning if she is good or bad.
An important character is Ellie. She is the narrator of the story, and a caring leader. She is also conflicted with her feelings. For example she doesn’t know if she likes Lee or Homer and she can’t decide. She also doesn’t know if she is a good person or not after she blew up the soldiers in order to protect her friends from being shot. This shows she is conflicted because she is like two different people. She doesn’t know her own thoughts and they always change from one to the other. This makes Ellie an important character.
